Welcome to Oak Town!

The children and I looked at a satellite map of our area. They said;

I see so many rectangles.
What are these lines?
The green part looks like the forest....

I explained that this was a map of the area where we went to school and walked. The children found the post office, the grocery store, the cafe and more which we've past by on our walks. They loved the new way of looking down at our community from the sky. So we decided to make a map like this. The discussion was amazing.  The following is just a part of it.

We need a fire station to save our town from the fire.
It has to be placed in a good location to access all over our town to go save people very quickly.
Why don’t we place the fire station in the middle of our town?
I’ll be a fire fighter and save people driving a fire track.
I’ll call you fire fighter, if I see a fire.

I want to drive a car.
So we have to have traffic lights on the streets to avoid accidents.
Everybody should follow the traffic lights because I don't want anyone to get hurt.

We need police officers who keeps our safe too.
We should place a police office near the park, so the police officer can keep an eye on children playing in the park.

The children created their town considering what we need to live well, how we help each other and what we are supposed to do to make our town better.

The children painted streets, buildings and the land, then placed all the facilities. Oak town is still growing day by day because the children keep adding what is needed in a livable city.
Maybe we can share this with the new Mayer!
